Disney's Lakeshore Lodge is a new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) resort on Bay Lake, between Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. It is scheduled to open July 1, 2027. You don't need to own DVC to stay there. Cash reservations opened to everyone on October 8, 2026, and Disney lists free boat service to Magic Kingdom. Below I've split what Disney has officially said from what the fan sites are only estimating, so you can decide whether to book now or wait.
When does Disney's Lakeshore Lodge open?
Disney says Lakeshore Lodge opens July 1, 2027, and stays can be booked starting that night. Disney confirmed the date on the Disney Parks Blog on August 27, 2026, and the official resort page uses the same date.
The project has a long history. Disney first announced it in 2018 as a combined hotel and DVC resort, soon named "Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge," with a 2022 target. COVID stopped it, and it came back in November 2024 under the Lakeshore Lodge name with a "summer 2027" target (summary of the timeline). It sits on the old River Country water park site.
One caution for July 1 bookers: opening week at any new resort can be rough. Staff are new, systems glitch, and some spaces may not be finished. If this is your family's once-in-five-years trip, I would think hard before booking the first week. As of mid-October 2026, Disney hasn't said whether every pool, restaurant and lounge will be open on day one.
Is Lakeshore Lodge a DVC resort or a regular Disney hotel?
Lakeshore Lodge is a Disney Vacation Club resort, but anyone can book it with cash, like any other Disney Deluxe hotel. The current WDWINFO coverage says it plainly: you do not need to be a DVC member to stay.
Here is what's confirmed and what isn't:
| Topic | Status | What we know |
|---|---|---|
| DVC resort | Confirmed | Disney describes it as a DVC property. DVC members get early booking and a member preview event. |
| 100% DVC (no separate hotel wing) | Reported, not confirmed by Disney | BlogMickey says it is their "understanding" that DVC owns 100% of the rooms. The original 2018 plan was part hotel and part DVC. |
| How many rooms are bookable with cash | Estimate only | Disney Tourist Blog guesses 80% or more of rooms will be cash-bookable in 2027 and probably 2028, because DVC sells points slowly and unsold rooms go into cash inventory. |
| DVC point price per point | Not announced | As of October 17, 2026, Disney hasn't published a price per point (DVCNews says purchase details come later). |
| Points chart / points booking date | Not announced | Per DVCNews, points booking details and the points chart "will be released at a later date." |
| Club-level rooms on points | Unknown | If they can be booked with points, DVCNews notes it would be DVC's first concierge option in almost 20 years. Disney hasn't said. |
What this means for you: if you're a cash guest, it works like booking the Polynesian or Wilderness Lodge. If a DVC salesperson is pitching you Lakeshore points, ask for the price per point, the annual dues, the contract end date and the points chart in writing before you sign. A DVC contract is a decades-long real estate commitment, and that's a bigger decision than one vacation.
When could you book Lakeshore Lodge, and what does it cost?
Cash bookings opened in three waves: DVC members on October 6, 2026, Annual Passholders on October 7, and everyone else on October 8. That's from Disney's own Letters from Lakeshore post. Booking is open now online or at (407) 934-7639.
Disney hasn't published a rate table. These are the rack rates (no discounts) Disney Tourist Blog spot-checked in October 2026 for late-summer 2027 and the following off-season. Rates change, so treat these as a snapshot and price your own dates:
| Room type | Sleeps | Reported rate per night |
|---|---|---|
| Duo Studio (Encanto), Preferred View | 2 | from about $505 |
| Resort Studio (Pocahontas), Resort View | 4 | about $559 |
| Deluxe Studio (Bambi), Resort View | 4 | about $621 |
| Deluxe Studio, Premium View | 4 | about $738 |
| Resort Studio, Club Level | 4 | about $888 |
| 1-Bedroom Villa, Resort View | 5 | about $916 |
| 2-Bedroom Villa, Resort View | 9 | about $1,526 |
| 1-Bedroom Lake House | 5 | about $2,319 |
| 2-Bedroom Lake House | 8 | about $2,899 |
| 3-Bedroom Grand Villa, Premium View | 12 | about $2,930 |
"Premium View" means a view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks. Prices are before tax.
Disney Tourist Blog says those rates sit just above Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge, and well below Riviera and the Polynesian's Island Tower for similar villas. They also guess that discounts could show up after mid-July 2027, but that's only a guess. When they checked, Lakeshore wasn't included in any of Disney's current special offers.
To see how a Deluxe resort changes the total for a family from Northern Illinois, read my breakdown of what a Disney vacation costs from Illinois. Moving from a Moderate to a Deluxe usually changes the total more than anything else you book.
DVC members only: the "First Wave" preview. DVC is holding a three-night preview event June 24–27, 2027. Booking opens November 7, 2026, at 10 a.m. ET by phone through Member Services. It includes 3-day Park Hopper tickets, several meals (including dinner at Moonglade) and a dining card, and you pay with points. DVCNews reports packages start at 184 points for two adults (Disney Tourist Blog, DVCNews).
What room types are at Lakeshore Lodge?
Lakeshore Lodge has 967 rooms, from two-person Duo Studios to three-bedroom Grand Villas, plus freestanding A-frame Lake Houses on the water. Each room type is themed to a nature-focused Disney film. Disney published capacities on its resort page and the Parks Blog:
- Duo Studio (Encanto): up to 2 guests, kitchenette, private balcony. Good for couples, not families.
- Resort Studio (Pocahontas): up to 4 in the queen version (two queen beds) and 2 in the king version, with a mini fridge and microwave. Some are club level.
- Deluxe Studio (Bambi): up to 4 on a queen bed plus a queen pull-down bed, kitchenette with wet bar, sofa.
- 1-Bedroom Villa (Bambi): up to 5, full kitchen, washer/dryer, patio.
- 2-Bedroom Villa: up to 9, second bathroom.
- 3-Bedroom Grand Villa (Fantasia): up to 12.
- Lake Houses (Brother Bear): A-frames with porches facing the water. The 1-bedroom sleeps 5 and the 2-bedroom sleeps 8, with a full kitchen and washer/dryer.
- Hidden Willow Presidential Suite: two bedrooms, sleeps 6, club access.
Club-level guests get The Artist's Nest lounge, with snacks, drinks, concierge help and a fireworks view.
My practical take for families of four or five: the 1-Bedroom Villa is the one I'd look at first. A separate bedroom door, a washer and dryer, and a real kitchen do more for a tired family than a fancy lobby. A Deluxe Studio sleeps four, but that means a queen bed and a queen pull-down bed in the same room, so everyone goes to sleep at the same time.
How do you get from Lakeshore Lodge to Magic Kingdom?
Disney's resort page lists a free water taxi from Lakeshore Lodge to Magic Kingdom, plus free Disney buses to the other parks, the water parks and Disney Springs. Minnie Vans cost extra. Self-parking is free for resort guests, and valet is $42 a night plus tax (official resort page).
What's not confirmed:
- Monorail: No. Lakeshore isn't on the monorail loop. The monorail resorts are the Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian.
- Walking to Magic Kingdom: No. You can walk from the Contemporary, but Bay Lake sits between Lakeshore and the park.
- Walking path to Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness: Not announced. It sits right between them, but Disney has only described a scenic walking path through the resort's own recreation area.
- Boats to other resorts (Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, Contemporary): not announced. Disney has confirmed boat service to Magic Kingdom only. An existing afternoon-to-evening boat already links the Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness, and it's not yet known whether Lakeshore will be added (ResortsGal).
The catch with boats: they stop for lightning, and Florida summer storms are near-daily. Guests usually get moved to buses, which takes longer. If you're traveling in July with kids who struggle with waiting, plan your Magic Kingdom exits around that.
What pools, dining and theming does Lakeshore Lodge have?
The pool area, called The Wetlands, has a zero-entry feature pool with a spiral slide, a lazy river, two Pocahontas-inspired kids' play areas, and a leisure pool on the opposite side of the resort. Disney revealed it on the Parks Blog in June 2026:
- Lakeshore Lagoon: zero-entry main pool with a spiral waterslide.
- Daydream River: lazy river.
- Heron Shores and Otter Springs: play areas for kids, with climbing features at Heron Shores and interactive water features at Otter Springs.
- Cypress Point: leisure pool and whirlpool, positioned for Magic Kingdom fireworks views at night.
Dining and lounges announced:
- Moonglade: lakefront table-service restaurant with seasonal, local food. It replaced the Princess and the Frog restaurant from the original plan.
- Bay Lake Provisions: all-day quick service and coffee.
- Paint Out Point Bar & Grill: casual poolside spot by Lakeshore Lagoon.
- Branch & Brush: cocktail lounge with lake views.
- Dandelion Terrace: evening lounge with a two-story gallery of archival Disney art (including Fantasia) and fireworks views.
Moonglade will be the new table-service spot everyone wants, so book it the moment your 60-day dining window opens (6 a.m. Eastern). For resort guests, those 60 days count back from your check-in date. My Disney dining reservations guide explains how that window works.
Disney also lists bike rentals, campfires, fishing, Movies Under the Stars and fireworks viewing. Disney's resort page says the Electrical Water Pageant passes the lodge nightly on Bay Lake, weather permitting.
The theming is "nature in Disney animation": Pocahontas in the lobby, Bambi, Brother Bear, Encanto and Fantasia in the rooms, and a fiber-optic "river" lighting up the lobby floor.
Lakeshore Lodge vs. Wilderness Lodge, Contemporary and Polynesian: which fits your family?
Lakeshore Lodge is closest in feel and transportation to Wilderness Lodge, its next-door neighbor. Choose the Contemporary or Polynesian if monorail access to Magic Kingdom and EPCOT matters more to you than having the newest resort.
| Lakeshore Lodge | Wilderness Lodge (incl. Copper Creek & Boulder Ridge villas) | Contemporary (incl. Bay Lake Tower) | Polynesian (incl. Island Tower) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lake | Bay Lake | Bay Lake | Bay Lake | Seven Seas Lagoon |
| To Magic Kingdom | Boat (official) | Boat | Walk or monorail | Monorail or boat |
| To EPCOT | Bus | Bus | Monorail (with a transfer) | Monorail (short walk to the TTC) |
| DVC villas | Yes (reportedly the whole resort) | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Newness | Opens July 2027 | Established | Established | Island Tower newer |
| Reported price vs. others | Just above Wilderness | Usually lower | Higher | Island Tower higher |
| Fireworks from resort | Yes, Premium View rooms | Limited | Yes | Yes, from the beach |
Who I'd point to Lakeshore: families who like a "national park lodge" feel, want a newer room and a lazy river, and plan to spend most park days at Magic Kingdom. Also families who've already stayed at Wilderness Lodge and want something new in the same area.
Who I'd point elsewhere: families who plan to hop to EPCOT often (the monorail resorts are easier), families who need to get back to the room fast for a midday break (walking from the Contemporary is hard to beat), and anyone on a firm budget (a Moderate like Port Orleans may be a better fit).
What should autism and sensory-sensitive families know about Lakeshore Lodge?
Lakeshore Lodge sits across Bay Lake from Magic Kingdom, and Disney says many rooms will have fireworks views, so you'll likely hear the fireworks every night from your room and the pool area. Some kids love that. For others it means a loud, unpredictable boom at bedtime.
As a mom of two autistic kids, these are the things I'd plan around:
- Fireworks noise. "Premium View" rooms and Cypress Point pool are sold on fireworks views, and the sound carries over water. If loud booms are a trigger, book a Resort View room, bring noise-canceling headphones, and preview the fireworks on YouTube at home so your child knows what they sound like. Check the park's show schedule for your dates closer to the trip so you know when they start. Disney hasn't said which buildings face Magic Kingdom, so ask me to note your preference on the reservation.
- The Electrical Water Pageant has music and lights and passes the resort nightly, weather permitting. That's a lovely surprise for some kids and a startle for others. Talk about it ahead of time.
- Water and elopement. The resort is on open water, with a lazy river, a pool area and a beach-style lakefront. For a child who wanders or bolts toward water, ask for a room away from the shoreline and use a GPS tracker. Lake Houses sit right on the water.
- Opening-month crowds. New resorts draw lots of curious visitors in the first weeks. If your child needs a predictable, quieter space, a stay a few months after opening is a safer bet.
- The boat. A boat ride can be calming, or it can be a crowded wait in the heat. When boats stop for lightning, the switch to a bus can be a hard transition.
- Kitchens matter. For kids with restricted diets, a villa kitchen or studio kitchenette is a big help.
As of mid-October 2026, Disney hasn't published accessibility details for Lakeshore, such as accessible room types, roll-in showers or pool lifts. If your family needs them, ask before you book. My Disney World autism planning guide covers DAS, pacing and choosing a resort in more depth, and my step-by-step DAS guide explains how to register up to 60 days ahead.
Why does Lakeshore Lodge matter for Midwest families?
For families in Rockford and the Stateline, Lakeshore Lodge is mostly a summer or fall 2027 option. It opens just as Illinois and Wisconsin schools let out, and July is hot, stormy and busy.
A few things I'd think through from here:
- Timing. A July 1 opening lines up with summer break, but summer is when boats get delayed by storms and Magic Kingdom crowds are heavy. Families with more flexibility may get better value in late August or September 2027, when Disney's 2027 tickets are cheapest (BlogMickey on 2027 pricing). Disney hasn't announced any Lakeshore discounts for fall 2027.
- Getting there. Lakeshore doesn't change how you get to Orlando. Most of my families fly out of O'Hare or Rockford's RFD, or make the roughly 1,200-mile drive. See Drive or fly to Disney from Northern Illinois.
- Booking early isn't always better here. If discounts follow the pattern fan sites expect, booking now and watching for offers may make sense. Whether a later offer can be applied to an existing reservation depends on that offer's terms and availability, so it's never guaranteed.
How I help with a Lakeshore Lodge trip
I'm a Rockford-based travel advisor working with Magical Vacation Planner, a Diamond-Level Authorized Disney Vacation Planner agency. My planning doesn't cost you anything, because Disney pays me, not you.
For a Lakeshore Lodge trip, here's what I actually do: I compare Lakeshore with Wilderness Lodge, the monorail resorts and a Moderate for your exact dates, so you can see what the newest resort costs you. I watch your reservation for discounts after you book. I set dining reminders so you're ready for Moonglade at 6 a.m. on day 60. I build a Lightning Lane plan around your kids' must-dos.
I'm also an IBCCES Certified Autism Travel Professional and a mom of two kids on the spectrum. I'll ask about fireworks, water, waiting and food, and choose a room request based on your answers instead of the view upgrade. You can read more about our family's travel in Traveling with two kids on the spectrum, or see how I plan Disney and Universal vacations.
