If you live in the Rockford area, spring break 2027 splits into two weeks. Rockford Public Schools (RPS 205), Harlem, Freeport, Byron and South Beloit are off March 29–April 2, 2027 (and all five are also off Good Friday, March 26). Belvidere, Hononegah, Rockton, Pecatonica, Winnebago, DeKalb, Sycamore, Beloit and Janesville are off March 22–26, and a few of those add March 29. Thanksgiving and winter break line up much better across the Stateline. Almost everyone is off November 25–27 and December 21, 2026–January 1, 2027.

When is spring break 2027 for Rockford-area schools?
Spring break 2027 falls on one of two weeks: March 22–26 or March 29–April 2. Easter Sunday is March 28, 2027, right between them. That's why some districts take the week before Easter and others take the week after.
Here's how the districts split:

A few details that matter for booking:
- RPS 205 lists spring break as March 29–April 2, but Good Friday (March 26) is also a no-school holiday on the official 2026–27 calendar. In practice, Rockford kids have nine days off in a row, from Friday, March 26 through Sunday, April 4.
- Harlem lists spring break as March 26–April 2 on its board-approved calendar. Thursday, March 25 is a School Improvement Day, and the district's day-rotation calendar shows no classes that day, so Harlem students are out from March 25 through Sunday, April 4.
- Beloit shows spring break as March 20–28, which is the weekend before through the weekend after the March 22–26 school week. April 2 is also a no-student conference day.
- Janesville also has a no-school professional development day on Friday, March 19, so students get a 10-day stretch from March 19 to March 28.

All dates are 2026 for Thanksgiving and December, and 2027 for January onward. Dates were checked against official district calendars on October 17, 2026.
When is Thanksgiving break for Stateline schools?
Most Stateline districts are off Wednesday through Friday, November 25–27, 2026. RPS 205, Freeport and Sycamore take the full week of November 23–27.
That full week is a real opening for Rockford families. If you leave Saturday, November 21 and come home Sunday, November 29, you get nine days without pulling kids out of school. Florida in late November is warm without summer heat, and Allegiant flies nonstop from RFD to several Florida cities. (My Rockford direct flights guide lists the current routes.)
Thanksgiving week is still a holiday week everywhere you'd want to go. Expect higher prices and busier parks for the Saturday-to-Saturday that includes the holiday.
When is winter break 2026–27?
Winter break runs December 21, 2026 through January 1, 2027 for nearly every district in the area. There are two exceptions. Janesville starts two days later, on December 23, and Beloit's break runs December 19 through January 3.
The thing to watch is the return date. Harlem, Hononegah, Rockton, Byron, Winnebago, Pecatonica and Beloit all have Monday, January 4 as a no-student day (an institute or school improvement day), so those kids go back January 5. RPS 205, Sycamore, South Beloit and Janesville students go back January 4. If your family is split between districts, that extra Monday could give you one more travel day, or it could just give you one more day of childcare to figure out.
One timing note for winter break: the RFD charters to Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica don't start until January 23, 2027, so they aren't an option over the holidays. For a December beach trip from the Stateline, your choices are Allegiant's Florida nonstops from RFD, or O'Hare and Milwaukee. Now that the Landline bus between Rockford and O'Hare has ended (its last day was October 4, 2026), getting to O'Hare takes more planning. Which weeks overlap, and which don't?
If all your kids are in one district, you have one spring break week. If they're split between two, you may have none in common, so look at the table before you plan anything.
Here are the combinations I'd expect to come up most in the Stateline:
- Rockton 140 + Hononegah 207 (the Rockton/Roscoe feeder pattern): both are off March 22–26, and Hononegah adds Monday, March 29. You're in good shape.
- RPS 205 + Harlem 122: both are off March 26–April 2. Also good.
- Rockford + Belvidere, or Rockford + Hononegah: no shared spring break week. If you have custody schedules or older and younger kids in different districts, this is where it gets hard. The only shared days are Good Friday, March 26 (Rockford's holiday, and the last day of the other districts' break), Easter weekend (March 27–28) and, for Hononegah, Monday, March 29.
- Beloit + South Beloit, across the state line: Beloit is off March 22–26, while South Beloit takes the week after Easter. Neighbors on opposite sides of the river get different weeks.
- Thanksgiving and winter break: everyone overlaps on November 25–27 and December 23–January 1. If you need one trip that works for a blended family across districts, those are your safest windows.
Which weeks will cost the most?
Both spring break weeks are peak-price weeks in 2027. Easter falls early, on March 28, so many schools across the country will be off one of these two weeks. Those families are booking the same flights, resorts and theme parks you are.
Here's how I think about the calendar:

Disney World and Universal both price tickets by date, so the same ticket costs more on holiday and spring break days, and Easter and spring break weeks tend to bring big crowds. If you're doing Disney during either spring break week, a few windows matter:
- Dining reservations open 60 days ahead at 6 a.m. Eastern. For a trip starting March 22, that's around January 21. For March 29, it's around January 28.
- Disability Access Service (DAS) registration opens up to 60 days before your visit. My guide to using DAS at Disney walks through the video chat.
- Lightning Lane bookings open 7 days ahead if you're staying at a Disney resort and 3 days ahead if you're not.
Do the RFD charter flights line up with spring break 2027?
Yes. The 2027 RFD vacation charters run through both spring break weeks, so Stateline families can fly nonstop to the beach from Rockford on either week. According to the airport's announcement, all three routes are sold through Apple Vacations and its sister companies, air-only or as a package (Rockford News First/WIFR):

Here's how that maps to the two weeks, based on the posted flight days. Exact dates and seats are set by Apple Vacations, so I confirm them before you book:
- March 22–26 districts (Belvidere, Hononegah, Rockton, DeKalb, Sycamore, Beloit, Janesville and others): Cancún leaves Saturday, March 20 and returns Saturday, March 27. Punta Cana works Sunday, March 21 to Sunday, March 28. Costa Rica works Friday, March 19 to Friday, March 26, but that means missing Friday school on the way out. The exception is Janesville, where March 19 is already a no-school day.
- March 29–April 2 districts (RPS 205, Harlem, Freeport, Byron, South Beloit): Cancún works Saturday, March 27 to Saturday, April 3, and Costa Rica works Friday, March 26 (Good Friday, a no-school day) to Friday, April 2. Punta Cana's season ends April 1, so a full week that late is tight. Ask me to check the exact return dates.

When should I book a spring break 2027 trip?
For spring break 2027, start pricing now and plan to book by late fall or early winter, especially for the RFD charters, family suites and Disney. The scarce things go first: charter seats on the Saturday of each break week, two-bedroom suites at family all-inclusives, and Disney resort rooms over Easter.
My rule of thumb for Stateline families:
- Now (October–November): choose your week from the table above, then confirm it on your district's calendar.
- By December: book the charter or flights and the resort or cruise. Many all-inclusive and cruise deposits are refundable or changeable up to a point, so a hold usually costs less than you'd think. Read the terms first.
- When you book: look at travel insurance, especially for a nonrefundable charter package. My travel insurance guide explains what's worth it.
- January: Disney dining (60 days out), passports for international trips, and DAS registration if you need it.
- Week before: Lightning Lane, check-in, and packing.
If you're traveling internationally, check passport expiration dates for everyone today. A charter to Cancún or Punta Cana won't help much if a passport is still in processing.
